The truth found in the words of scripture that Jesus sticks closer than a brother, that He is with us in the depths and heights, that His love is truly unconditional, that no one compares to Him is one of the most liberating revelations I’ve ever had. He goes against logic; when everyone leaves, He stays. He goes against the flow; when there’s every reason to hate, He loves. As David writes in Psalm 139, there’s no where we can go to escape His presence. Darkness can’t hide us from Him. Depths aren’t too low, heights aren’t too high, no storm is too powerful… We can’t escape His intimacy. We can’t run from His love.

O, what a beautiful friend. What a perfect lover.

When I hear this song, it shakes the inmost part of me. When I hear this song, I want Christ in the flesh to hold onto, to simply sit at his literal feet and pour my heart out in adoration. Jesus… more than a friend.. Jesus… who’s love never fails me, who’s intimate merciful touch heals me… In Him do we live and move and have our being. In Him is our joy complete. In Him is all our hope. In Him will we find everything we need.

He is near. He is always near. With love stronger than the fiercest storm, shouting adoration over the thunder, running to us through the raging sea, seeing us in the darkest of night.

O what great love. O what marvelous love. O what incredible love. O what beautiful love. Lavish it on me, O God. Lavish Your beautiful, tender, merciful love over me. Let it flow through every vessel in my body, let is wash over every part me and set me free. For only You can wash me whiter than snow. Only You can cleanse me. Only You can bring freedom and joy and peace. Only You. Only You can.
